Current Read: Practicing the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Practicing The Power Of Now

I am currently reading Practicing The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle and am getting some quotable gems out of it such as this one:

Observe the attachment to your pain. Be very alert. Observe the peculiar pleasure you derive from being unhappy. Observe the compulsion to talk or think about it. The resistance will cease if you make it conscious.

That quote really made me think about how sometimes we have an unhealthy relationship or attachment to pain or suffering. When we are really feeling down and hurt we live in that muck and we make sure everyone else knows how horrible things are. We become a victim to our experience and it can be a very dark place if we let it get to us. We form an attachment to the pain.

I have been going through some health issues the past couple of weeks and I am positive that this will get me back focused on the NOW. Instead of focusing on the pain I choose to focus on things like my breathing. I step fully into the now and out of the victim role that I created.

Have you read Practicing The Power Of Now or The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment? What are your thoughts on these books?
If you have not read them, what book(s) inspire you to live more in the now?
